PAST EVENTS:

7 February 2012: Wine Tasting

Thank you to those who came along with Senior Wine Buyer, Julian Dyer, from Sainsbury’s.  My goodness he knows his stuff and his enthusiasm was catching.  We all learnt so much and enjoyed tasting a combination of red and white wines.  Thank you so much to Julian and to Sainsbury’s who donated three bottles of wine to help us enjoy our evening!  All monies made from the event will go towards our 2012 Appeal “Transition” so thanks to everyone for coming out on a very cold night.

3 December 2011: Christmas Carols

Our thanks to “Just Voices” who did a brilliant job starting off the singing and thanks to all who came along and gave us their support and their voices on the day, including Lyn, Danielle and Jessica from Sainsbury’s.  We raised around £230 on the day which will go towards our events planned for next year.

27 November 2011: Farnborough Village Christmas Fayre

We were extremely lucky with the weather, which although cold and a little foggy, the rain stayed away.  Thank you to our volunteers who gave up their time to come along and help being Des and Angela Beatty, Cathy Bennett, Oliver and Christine Carroll, Belinda Mungeam, who brought in her much needed lights, and Lorraine Jenkins.  We managed to raise over £150.00 on the day, which is the best we’ve done for a long time.  Thank you to all who came and supported us and bought our Christmas items.

Our thanks also go to Sainsbury’s in West Wickham who donated three “Little Kitty” stationery sets to go into our lucky dip.  Thank you very much.

11 November 2011: Change of CEO

We say our goodbyes to Alison Hunter and hello to Jerry Hughes as our interim CEO.  The handover went very smoothly and we are all looking forward to working alongside Jerry.

10 November 2011 – BAT AGM at Ripley Arts Centre

As well as introducing Jerry as our new CEO, it was a time to say goodbye and thanks to Alison Hunter.  Our Chairman, Stephen Langford, presented Alison with her handmade card, gift and flowers.

Our Chairman was also very pleased to provide Honorary Certificates to our Events Team for all their hard work and dedication and for raising much needed funding.  Our thanks to Yvonne & Pat Harman, Leila & Mike Seeney, Melanie & Gary Butler and Mandy & Darren Jenkins.

We are grateful to our speakers of the evening who were Carol Povey who was the first Director at Bromley Autistic Trust and currently the Director of Development at the National Autistic Society.  She spoke about the implementation of the Autism Strategy.

Rebecca Bright, a young person with Aspergers Syndrome, who produced BAT’s Corporate DVD as part of her final year’s work at Ravensbourne College, part of Greenwich University, who talked about her reasons for offering to do so.  The DVD was shown in the adjoining room for all to see and has now been put on our website.

The Worshipful Mayor of Bromley said how pleased he was to attend and how he felt that he knew so much more about the Trust, of which he is Patron, and commended everyone for their hard work and dedication.  He thanked everyone for attending and supporting the Trust.

We also give our thanks to the members of Outreach who kindly brought along their artwork which included poems by Tom Latcham, drawings by David Bassadone, some beautiful beadwork produced by Emma Scott and some amazing paintings on stones produced by Paul Dolley.  Thank you all so much.!

We are also grateful to Jubilee House who produced their artistic wares and our thanks to all the staff and service users.  What a wonderful opportunity to display the talent of our service users!

4 October 2011 – BAT Conference – Aspects of ASD

Our thanks to all of our speakers, Dr Lorna Wing, Ros Blackburn, Sandra Beale-Ellis, Jason Jandu and Dr Luke Beardon for making this such a great day.  This is the first year that we have finished early to enable delegates to spend some time, if they wished, to network and this proved to be very popular.  Here are just a few of the comments received:-

“offered valuable insight into the autistic mind – most helpful as a parent. Luke Beardon provided a most refreshing, stimulating alternative view!”

“As a whole – all of the talks were beneficial, learning about a range of perspectives. Also meeting other parents. Brilliant speakers!”

All speakers had their own emphasis – not just pushing one “party line” which was interesting”

“Ros Blackburn’s talk was the best – helped me understand what to do”

“Today has made me think in terms of students I work with and how we as a College can change in order to help all our students”.

“Fantastic selection of speakers. A great balance of Service User/people with ASD and Doctors/Professionals to talk about their experiences.”

“Dr Lorna Wing’s overview and updated information was timely. Sandra Ellis’s strategies to “manage” was enlightening and useful”.

Our thanks to all who attended. If you have any suggestions for our Conference next year, why not email them to admin@burgessautisitctrust.org.uk
